Outdoor Dining in North End Extends to Sept. 30

You now have extra time to enjoy al fresco dining in the North End for a few extra weeks. Due to end on Sept. 5, the City of Boston is extending outdoor dining in the neighborhood through Sept. 30.

The 2022 outdoor dining season for the North End launched on May 1 — one month after other Boston neighborhoods.

Al Fresco a Success Despite Controversy

City officials report no significant issues with compliance despite the controversial decision for North End eateries to pay a $7,500 fee for outdoor tables — even though establishments in other Boston neighborhoods do not pay a fee. The city issues hardship waivers for restaurants unable to afford the fee.

According to city data, Boston collected about $300,000 from the more than 60 North End businesses participating in the outdoor dining program as of July 29. The city spent $714,330 on the neighborhood.

The outdoor seating program ends in other parts of the city in December.
