The beginning of 2023 has been a busy one for the restaurant and food scene in Newton’s 13 Villages

Burke’s Alewerks Taproom Opens in West Newton

A new spot for craft beer, Burke’s Alewerks, is now open at 1391 Washington Street in West Newton, occupying the space previously housing The Local. Burke’s Alewerks was founded in Hanover but relocated to Newton in early January.

The taproom offers traditional European and American-style ales alongside a food menu of pizza and hot pretzels. Burke’s also offers a selection of wines.

Lexington Deli Expands to Newton

Lexington sandwich shop Avenue Deli is now open at 1134 Beacon Street in Newton Highlands. The menu for the new spot includes a wide variety of sandwiches, including corned beef, pastrami, salami, bologna, soups, salads, pizza, fish and chips, chicken fingers, and more. website: https://www.avenuedelinewton.com/

Ansonia Wines Opens New Warehouse in Nonatum

After ten years in our original location in Newtonville, Ansonia Wines,  family-owned importer and reseller of small-batch French wines moved their warehouse to 12 Hawthorn Street (across from Pellegrini Park. The warehouse is open to the public Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Comella’s to Relocate from West Newton to Newtonville

West Newton’s loss is Newtonville’s gain. With the current location on Washington Street in West Newton marked for development, Comella’s is moving to Bram Way Plaza in Newton (off Austin Street) next to the Starbucks. An opening date for the new location has not been set.
